The Wulonggou Great Wall. The Wulonggou Great Wall is located 35 kilometers to the northeast of Laiyuan County, Hebei Province. Its full length is about 20 kilometers. The rampart was built with stones. Today it is still in good condition, and most battlements are in tact. The bottom is nearly 5 meters wide, and the top 4 meters. The height is 4 to 7 meters. In this section, there are 54 watch towers laid by bricks and stones. The foundation was built with slabs, on which bricks were laid. The watch towers are about 12 meters in length and width, and about 8 meters in height. Each of them has two floors, and was designed in arched structure with winding corridor built with bricks and stones. Most of them have 2 gates and 12 arrow windows on the first floor, and brick-timber stairs between floors. On the top of the front gate and the back gate there was laid a white marble tablet respectively, written with the number of the watch tower in the form of ‘Wu, number…’. In the vicinity of Wulonggou there were dotted with watch towers, with a distance of 400 to 500 meters in between. Today over 40 watch towers are in good condition.
The Wulonggou Great Wall has a simple, strong and precise construction. Except for some natural collapse, it hardly suffered destroys by men. Climbing up the summit and overlooking the majestic Wulonggou Great Wall zigzagging among lofty mountains, we can enjoy the splendid scenery with an open vision.
